NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Biology Chapter 15 Body Fluids and Circulation
NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Biology Chapter 15 Body Fluids and Circulation covers the composition of blood and lymph, the human heart and cardiac cycle, and double circulation.
Overview of Topics & Subtopics (Click to Jump)
1. Blood
Short Note:
• Blood is a fluid connective tissue consisting of a fluid matrix, plasma (containing water, proteins like fibrinogen/globulins/albumins), and formed elements: RBCs (oxygen transport via haemoglobin), WBCs (immunity/defence), and platelets (blood clotting).
• Blood groups (ABO system): based on presence/absence of antigens A and B on RBCs; Rh factor: presence (Rh+) or absence (Rh−) of the Rh antigen, important in blood transfusion and Rh incompatibility during pregnancy (erythroblastosis foetalis).
2. Lymph
Short Note:
• Lymph is a colourless fluid, similar to plasma but with lower protein content, that drains from tissue spaces into lymphatic vessels; important for fat transport and immune function.
3. The Human Heart and Cardiac Cycle
Short Note:
• The human heart is four-chambered (two atria, two ventricles), pumping blood through double circulation — pulmonary circulation (heart to lungs and back) and systemic circulation (heart to body and back).
• The cardiac cycle consists of systole (contraction) and diastole (relaxation) of the atria and ventricles, generating heart sounds (lub-dub) and regulated by the sinoatrial (SA) node, the natural pacemaker.
